在老舍的筆下，北京的春節(jié)躍然紙上，熱鬧非凡。而我們潮汕的除夕，一點伍仿也不亞于北京的春節(jié)。
除夕從臘月十五就開始了。在這一天，家家戶戶都在忙著大掃除，用物和被帳都要清洗干凈，稱為“采囤”。除夕前一兩天，家家戶戶都在制作各形各式的粿品，以備過年用。
除夕一到，就相當于迎來了一個高潮。除夕這一天除了要祭祀祖先外，還要祭神。例如，在這一天，許多人家都將，米缸倒?jié)M米，供上兩個大柑橘，這就是拜米罐。
拜過神后，就該到男人們忙碌了。每當這個時侯，男人們都動手把大門、廳門、房門的舊春聯(lián)撕下來，糊上膠水，輕手輕腳地貼上新春聯(lián)。于是，家中門戶，煥然一新。春聯(lián)，在潮汕俗稱門符。而貼春聯(lián)也有學問。在潮汕春聯(lián)中，?？梢姷絾紊乳T兒或神龕上貼著斗大的一個“春”字?！按骸弊钟袃蓪右饬x：一是表示春回大地，萬象更新，一派生機；二是巧借“春”與“存”潮音的相諧，表示年年有余的良好愿望。這與北方喜筵上吃魚，諧音“余”有異曲同工之妙。
每逢除夕，家家戶戶除了貼春聯(lián)外，還要貼“福”字。近年來才有人家學習北方把福倒貼過來。而“福”字倒貼的習俗，其中還蘊含著一個民間故事。據說有一年春節(jié)前夕，清朝恭親王王府的大管家為討主子歡心，按慣例寫了幾個斗大的“?！弊?，叫仆人貼在庫房和王府大門上。有一個仆人因不識字，竟將大門上的“?！弊值官N了。恭親王福晉看了十分氣惱，欲鞭罰懲戒。幸好大管家是個能說善辯之人，他見事不妙，怕牽涉到自己，慌忙跪在主子面前說：“奴才常聽人說，恭親王壽高福大造化大，如今大福真的到（倒）了，此乃吉祥之兆。”恭親王一腔察纖聽，也合情合理，心想，怪不得過往行人都說恭親王府福到（倒）了，遂賞管家和仆人各五十兩銀子。自此，倒貼“?！弊值牧曀讖耐醺畟鞯矫耖g。潮語“倒”與“到”并不諧音，故潮汕地區(qū)以往無倒貼“?！弊至曀祝歉母镩_放后之后從北方引入的。
忙完了該忙的習俗，一家人圍著桌子吃起了團圓飯。吃團圓飯時要說吉沒跡利話，當家的人要祝長輩身體健康長壽。在吃團圓飯之時，如果小孩子不慎將盤碗掉落地，大人們會接上說聲“缶開嘴，大富貴”之類的吉利語。
吃團圓飯的別稱也叫圍爐，這不正反映了中華民族渴望團圓，渴望幸福的民俗文化和難以分散的凝聚力嗎？
圍爐過后，大人給小孩發(fā)壓歲錢。隨后，一家人團聚在燈前爐旁，看著聯(lián)歡晚會，一直到十二點。這也叫守歲。
